No TV we’ve reviewed this year has managed to match the picture quality of the TCL 55R635, or even come close to it, at this price point. If you’re looking for a reasonably sized screen within the mid-price range, the 50S535 is our top recommendation. It boasts a vibrant QLED panel with fantastic picture quality and a very competitive resolution of 4K UHD.
It has a solid choice of inputs and outputs, including four HDMI ports, and two USB ports, as well as excellent video processing. It has a fantastic Smart TV operating system with integrated Alexa and Google Assistant support, as well as WiFi wireless connectivity.
The QLED panel itself is absolutely stunning, with very thin bezels and an overall sleek and modern design. It has a very good uniformity across the frame and an extremely fast 240 Hz refresh rate. It isn’t a TV for gamers, but it does support the Dolby Vision technology.
If you want to upgrade your TV but can’t afford the high-end models, this is our recommendation for a new TV.
#2. R6090G, Roku 4K UHD Smart TV From Hisense
Best 4K Smart TV
Top Pick
The Hisense R6090G is a fantastic value with an array of top-notch features at a price that’s hard to beat. It boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, 4K resolution, full HDR compatibility, and the usual Roku Smart capabilities. The TV has a relatively weak stereo speaker system that can be improved with a good soundbar.
- 120Hz Refresh Rate
- Includes Voice Search
- Also Great For Gamers

If you’re looking for a new 4K Smart TV, the Hisense R6090G is one of our top recommendations. It is a fantastic value with an array of top-notch features at a price that’s hard to beat. It boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, 4K resolution, full HDR compatibility, and the usual Roku Smart capabilities.
It’s a well-rounded television with excellent picture quality and a Smart interface built-in. It has many of the same features as more expensive models and even includes a voice search feature to help you find what you want to watch.
It’s also a great choice for gamers who want to experience the best possible picture quality, as it includes an array of inputs to connect to all your game consoles, Blu-ray players, or streaming boxes.
It’s also available in 43, 50, 55, and 65 inches sizes. Our biggest complaint about the Hisense R6090G is that the built-in sound system can be a bit lacking.
The TV has a relatively weak stereo speaker system that can be improved with a good soundbar. It’s far from the best in the world, but it’s certainly worth considering if you’re looking for something with a real punch at a truly budget-friendly price.
#3. X80J, 4K Ultra HD LED Smart Google TV From Sony
Best Alexa Compatibility Option
Top Pick
The Sony X80J has a nice modern design and a vibrant picture that looks good in almost any setting. It’s not a particularly impressive TV if you’re looking for something that gives you more picture flexibility than a flat panel. If you have a less generous budget, you still have many other options to choose from.

Where the entry-level class ends and the luxury class begins, there’s a sweet spot where you can find a TV that offers decent image quality and some extra features without actually breaking the bank. In this case, the Sony X80J offers both. It has a nice modern design and a vibrant picture that looks good in almost any setting. If you have a less generous budget, you still have many other options to choose from. The X80J has excellent clarity and a wide color gamut, but it doesn’t really excel in any one area.
It’s a fine choice if you’re looking for something with a little bit more bling, but it can’t compete with the best TVs out there.
#4. V-Series with Apple AirPlay From Vizio
Best Budget TV Under $500
Budget Option
The Vizio V505-H19 may not have the sexiest design, but it’s one of the best TVs we reviewed. It offers a wide dynamic range and solid HDR compatibility, as well as a smart TV platform that includes both Google Chromecast and Amazon Alexa. While it doesn’t have the most generous premium options, most users will likely be just fine without them.
- Excellent Color Accuracy & Gamut
- Alexa & Google Assistant
- Built-In Chromecast
See It
The Vizio V505-H19 may not have the sexiest design, or be the most feature-packed, but this budget TV still managed to be one of the best TVs we reviewed. It offers a wide dynamic range and solid HDR compatibility, along with a smart TV platform that includes both Google Chromecast and Amazon Alexa. During our review, we noted that it had excellent color accuracy and a wide color gamut for the price.
And it’s got an array of smart features, including Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. While it’s not a part of the company’s SmartCast family, the V505-G9 shares many of the same fundamentals as the TCL 43S517.
It offers a built-in Google Chromecast, a selection of locally installed apps, and a dedicated channel of free streaming content. While it may not have the same sleek styling as some of the more premium models, the V505-G9 still has a more stylish look than most budget TVs, and it has a fairly decent set of ports.
It does lack a few of the more generous premium options, but most users will likely be just fine without them. It is, however, one of the best TVs you can get for the money.
#5. H8G Quantum Smart TV with Voice Remote From Hisense
Best 4K HDR 55-inch
Top Pick
The Hisense H8G Quantum’s price tag might seem low, but the picture quality is anything but. While the QLED technology adds some realism, it doesn’t quite reach the best picture quality of the best TVs. The 4K resolution and HDR compatibility are also impressive, especially considering the price. We think most people will be able to find something to like about this new model at this price.
- 4K Resolution & HDR
- 4 HDMI 2.0 Inputs
See It
If you’re looking to replace an old TV with a new one, the Hisense H8G Quantum is one of our top recommendations. In our review, we noted the striking contrast and great image quality, while the black levels and overall uniformity impressed us. The 4K resolution and HDR compatibility are also impressive, especially considering the price.
The H8G Quantum’s price tag might seem low, but the picture quality is anything but. It features Hisense’s popular Android TV operating system, which we found to be stable and user-friendly. It also has four HDMI 2.0 inputs, with supporting ARC connections.
If you’ve got older video components, it also has options for connection via Wireless, Bluetooth, and Ethernet. It does have its weak points, most notably a less than perfect color calibration. In our opinion, the image quality of the QLED panel is still better than that of the other QLED models in this price range.
the QLED panel offers more than enough detail and isn’t oversimplified. In addition, Hisense’s Android TV operating system is a breeze to use. We think most people will be able to find something to like about the new H8G Quantum, especially at this price.
