Allen Deluxe 2-Bike provides a simple and no-nonsense trunk-mount rack design. The rack supports two bikes using 12.5-inch wide support arms that make direct contact with the bike frame. It doesn’t come with any locking features of any kind, and there’s no way to secure the rack with a cable lock.

The Allen Deluxe 2-Bike is an impressively inexpensive trunk-mount rack and one of the least expensive options we tested. It provides a simple and no-nonsense design, and it comes fully assembled with only one simple step required to fold it open and secure it in place. The rack supports two bikes using 12.5-inch wide support arms that make direct contact with the bike frame.
And it supports bikes with traditional frame shapes, and it is quite easy to install with five nylon straps that hook into the top, sides, and bottom of the trunk or hatch of the vehicle.
The Deluxe 2-Bike is very user-friendly, but the security features could have been better. While it is one of the least expensive options we tested, it also doesn’t come with any locking features of any kind.
There simply isn’t any way to secure the rack with a cable lock, and the bikes are held in a fixed position. The fixed support arms may not work with all bike frame shapes, and we found them to work best with bikes that have more traditional frame shapes.
That said, we feel this is an excellent option if you’re shopping on a very tight budget.
#2. Sherpa 2.0 From Kuat
Best Tray-Style Rack
Top Pick
Keat’s Sherpa 2.0 is lightweight and easy to use, but it has a high price tag. It has a maximum tire size of 3ft, so it can’t fit fat bikes. The rack comes with a noose-style cable lock that can be noosed and used for theft protection. It also has a recommended weight limit of just 40 lbs per bike, but that’s not enough for heavier electric bikes.
- 40 lbs Per Bike
- Easy To Use

The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 narrowly missed out on our top ranking with its simple and lightweight design. This tray-style rack has a low loading height and easy to use tilt mechanism. The rack has a single-bolt locking mechanism that secures the rack to your vehicle with a locking pin. Kuat distinguishes the Sherpa 2.0 from other lightweight racks with its large, foot-activated tilt release lever.
A standard threaded hitch pin is used to secure the rack to your vehicle. The Sherpa 2.0 has a recommended weight limit of just 40 lbs per bike. While that is plenty for most mountain, road, or gravel bikes, it won’t work with heavier electric bikes that are so popular today
For added security, the rack comes with a noose-style cable lock that can be noosed and used to add an additional layer of theft protection. The rack also has a built-in light bar that lets you know that the rack is secure when it isn’t in use. While the Sherpa 2.0 has some great features, it is not our favorite.
It lacks adjustability and has a somewhat limited range of applications. The rack also has a maximum tire size of 3ft, so it can’t fit fat bikes. The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 is lightweight and easy to use, but it does have the highest price tag of the models on this list.
But overall, we love the simple and user-friendly design of the Sherpa 2.0. We think youll enjoy it.
